Many of our woods are native to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We also harvest local woods that are not available commercially.

	Apple
	Volume/medium	top of page			Weight 375 grains
	Apple bones are Olivia's favorite. They are reddish in color sometimes with cream color sapwood streaks. There are lots of character marks in this wood.

	Birdseye Maple
	Volume/medium-high	top of page			Weight 350 grains
	A prized hardwood with a highly figured grain. A dense wood with a loud cutting tone and volume when desired or a clean and clear sound at lower volumes. These bones are among our most popular. The UP produces some of the best birdseye in the country.

	Bloodwood

	A dense South American wood with a bright red color. These are heavy bones with lots of sound. One of our more popular woods.

	Cherry
	Volume/medium	top of page			Weight 325 grains
	A beautiful domestic hardwood with a reddish-orange color. It has a sweet mid-range tone and volume. Cherry is the most popular material for our beginning customers.

	Ebony

	An extremely dense African hardwood which has been considered the premium choice of material for rhythm bones for years. Ebony is the number one choice of many expert players.

	Ironwood
	Volume/medium	top of page			Weight 450 grains
	Ironwood (hop hornbeam) is native to the UP. It's a really tough dense wood that is white to light brown in color. Has a similar weight and tone to bloodwood and ebony.

	Mahogany

	We use Honduran mahogany which is a premier quality instrument wood. A reddish brown color and a little on the light side of medium in weight. It has a great sound.

	Makore

	An African wood with a reddish brown color and a clear cutting tone. A good beginners bone...makore is what Jim learned to play on.

	Osage Orange
	Volume/high	top of page			Weight 525 grains
	Also known as hedge apple or bois d'arc. This is one of this countries hardest domestic woods. We gave bones master Johnny Perona a set of Osage bones for his 85th birthday and he all but stopped playing the ebony bones he has used for more that 50 years.

	Purpleheart
	Volume/high	top of page			Weight 425 grains
	A South American hardwood with a bright purple color. With an oiled finish it's almost black. Lots of volume potential. This is a popular choice for rhythm bones.

	Red Oak
	Volume/medium-high	top of page			Weight 350 grains
	A favorite domestic hardwood that's light in color with a coarse open grain. It has a rich clean tone and variable volume potential. Our red oak is harvested in the Upper Peninsula.

	Walnut

	A fairly dense Domestic hardwood with a crisp clear sound. Walnut has always been appealing because of its beautiful dark brown color.

	White Pine

	The favorite wood of legendary bones player Percy Danforth. White Pine offers a subued tone. Excellent for beginners or players that don't want a loud piercing effect. Pine are light in weight ... great for kids or small hands.

	Yellowheart

	A South American hardwood with a bright yellow color. Very similar to purpleheart in sound weight and volume.

	These bones are machined only. They can be hand sanded smooth and finished with any topcoat for wood. They come with sandpaper and instructions... you provide the elbow grease. Available in Pine and Cherry. Bulk orders available. School discounts.
